IconizeWP
Links are fun, but sometimes we don’t know where they take us. With this little CSS technique a user can identify a link by its icon.
IconizeWP allows you to add the excellent Iconize CSS directly to your wordpress installation without having to edit any template code - display icons for links based on the target’s content independent of theme across any/every wordpress page.
Simply upload the plugin directory and activate the plugin from the wordpress options and every link will show an icon depicting the target content - if a link points to a .pdf file, we show the .pdf icon after the link.
Compatibility
The CSS technique has been successfully tested with:
Firefox (Mac & PC), Camino, Safari, Opera (Mac & PC) & Internet Explorer 7 (ie6 doesn’t work).

To Do
I would really like to examine a way of turning off icons for specific links (such as images). This is well within the scope of a wordpress plugin, as it can be scripting to ignore certain link classes, of which a user could define any number within the options. Watch this space.

What about…
importing the favicon.ico of a site if available to represent the site that is linked to iconized?
For sure it should be an optional feature.
Well, just a thought.
