Arsenal 3 - 0 Newcastle
So, after a free scoring display against decidedly average opposition midweek, Arsenal faced the much tougher prospect of a reinvigorated Newcastle team. Newcastle have made some great signings over the summer and kickoff was eagerly anticipated by the Arsenal masses, especially as beating a team that held ManUre to a score draw would help land a small phsycological blow early on. And what a blow we dealt. It was a great game and we were all over them - good fortune for a change though with their own player blocking a goal bound Owen shot and Butt being denied by the bar. How nice is it for us to have that little bit of luck for a change?
Going forward we looked absolutely amazing, although Adebayor spurned a couple of chances - for the first time this season though i actually saw him look hungry so i hope he gets his goal instinct back soon.
Nice to see Denilson score his first premiership goal as well, he can only grow in confidence. Nasri was a shining light, and I was surprised he wasn’t awarded man of the match. His cheeky revenge clip of Joey Barton was fantastic and firmly applauded by all, even some of the Newcastle fans.
Final thought though, everytime I see RVP play he appears to get targeted by the opposition, clips, trips and raking challenges. I can’t help but think they target him because he’s dangerous, but more importantly delicate. And sure enough he’s gone for an x-ray. Keegan had a lot to say about one little trip by Nasri on Barton (aftyer Barton nearly killed Nasri) but he was strangely silent about a string of potentially career threatening challanges, a few of which were off the ball.
Well played Arsenal though as I said midweek, lets hope this doesn’t help Arsene kid himself that our squad is strong enough just yet.
